Year 1 blog:
The Year 1 children have been exploring their new history topic based on the first landing on the moon.
They started the day by re-enacting the landing with a great space race. Then they thought about the events that came before the landing in 1969.
They made links to their previous topic of 'The Wright Brothers' and thought about the what preparations had to happen in order for the historical event to occur. Then we looked at different sources and thought about what we can learn from them We learnt that 3 people set off on the mission to the moon and that Neil Armstrong was the first astronaut to take a step.
Throughout the day the children enjoyed a range of activities such as hot seating Neil Armstrong and creating their own action sequences to help remember the key events.
We finished the day by using our sculpting skills to pinch and pull clay to create our very own mini moons!
