Refugee Week:
This week, for Refugee Week, the whole school took part in a range of activities to help us think about what life is like for refugees around the world, linking to many of the Global Goals, but in particular Global Goal 10, Reducing Inequalities.
To begin the week, our Prayer and Sanctuary Leaders led a thoughtful assembly where they confidently shared important messages and encouraged children to reflect and participate. The children then wrote heartfelt prayers for refugees and spent time thinking about what they are thankful for, as well as how they can help and show kindness to others in the future. These activities encouraged everyone to reflect on the importance of compassion, understanding and community.
As part of Refugee Week, we also held a collection for New Forest Basics Bank. We would like to say a huge thank you to all our families for their incredible generosity. We were overwhelmed by the number of donations received, which will help support local people and families in need. Your kindness and willingness to help others truly reflects the values we strive to promote within our school community.
On Wednesday, we were delighted to welcome Steve from CAFOD, who led a series of engaging workshops for our KS2 children.Steve shared powerful stories and helped pupils learn more about the experiences of refugees and the journeys many families are forced to make in search of safety. The workshops encouraged thoughtful discussion and helped children develop a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by refugees around the world.
It has been a meaningful and inspiring week, helping us all to deepen our understanding of the experiences of refugees and reminding us of the importance of showing compassion, kindness and support to those in need.
