Year 5 blog:
Year 5 Southampton Adventure
Year 5 enjoyed a fantastic enrichment trip to Southampton, travelling by train to visit the Tudor House Museum. There, pupils toured the museum and took part in an interactive workshop, handling artefacts and exploring secondary sources from Tudor times. This built on their recent history learning about the Princes in the Tower, the Battle of Bosworth, and the start of the Tudor dynasty. It also set the scene perfectly for their next topic on the Spanish Armada and Elizabeth I — Year 5 are quickly becoming Tudor experts!
In the afternoon, the children headed to the Mayflower Theatre for a very special performance by the Welsh National Opera. This year’s "Step into the Wonderful World of Opera and Classical Music" concert for schools was themed around birds. Pupils were enchanted by music inspired by flight and feathers, including pieces from Swan Lake, The Hen, and The Firebird. They also enjoyed a colourful operatic performance of Papageno’s song from The Magic Flute, complete with exceptional costumes that brought the characters to life.
The concert was not only entertaining but also educational. Year 5 learned more about the different sections of the orchestra, experienced a stunning harp solo and watched as music was brought vividly to life with incredible images from the RSPB projected on the big screen.
It was an inspiring day full of history, music, and creativity, and a wonderful opportunity for Year 5 to deepen their knowledge and love of the arts.
