Year 2 blog:

Tudor House

Year 2 had a fabulous time on their trip to Tudor House in Southampton today! This exciting visit linked perfectly with our current topic The Great Fire of London, bringing history to life in such an engaging way.

The children explored a range of fascinating artefacts from the time and took part in discussions about why the fire spread so quickly across London. They also learned about the important changes that were made to the city afterwards, helping them understand how this historic event shaped the London we know today.

One of the highlights of the day was meeting a lady demonstrating a spinning jenny, who showed us how wool was spun and how clothes and everyday items were made in the past. The children were captivated by this hands-on experience and asked lots of thoughtful questions.

Throughout the visit, the children used photographs, paintings, and other secondary sources to deepen their understanding. The children especially loved the opportunity to dress up in historical costumes, really stepping back in time! The pillory and stocks were also a highlight!

We also enjoyed exploring the beautiful grounds, gardens, and the wider museum, making it a full and memorable day for everyone. Well done Year 2!
