Year 1 blog:
Year 1 Art Gallery Trip
Year 1 had a wonderful time on their “My First Art Gallery” trip to Southampton City Art Gallery!
We enjoyed a guided tour where the children explored a variety of paintings, thinking carefully about shapes and colours. They learned to identify whether artworks had warm or cool tones and took part in fun matching games, pairing paintings with their descriptions.
A highlight of the visit was looking closely at Fiona Rae’s abstract artwork. Inspired by her style, the children then took part in a creative workshop where they made their own versions using paper strips to add texture, as well as creating their own prints using a stencil they had made, and paint rollers. The finished pieces were absolutely fabulous, and the children were so excited to take them home in a frame!
We shared a lovely lunch together before having some more time to explore the gallery, and finished the day with a relaxing story at the City Library before our coach journey home.
It was a fantastic day, and the gallery staff praised the children for their excellent behaviour and conduct throughout the trip. Well done, Year 1!
