Year 2 Parent Workshop:

Year 2 parents and pupils enjoyed a Pip and Pap Phonics workshop together yesterday, reading Purple Phase Book 24, reading "Science Today," where aliens Thell and Fruzz make a volcano!

This book focused on the grapheme phoneme correspondences:

/v/ spelt 've', in words such as 'creative'

/l/ spelt 'le', in words such as 'article'

/s/ spelt 'sc' in words such as 'science'

/s/ spelt 'ce' in words such as 'substance'

/ai/ spelt 'eigh' in words such as 'eighteen'.

Pupils read the book beautifully to their parents, with great fluency and expression, before answering comprehension questions about what they had read. They then made their own volcano pictures together! Aren't they fantastic?
