Year R blog:
Year R have been celebrating Diwali! What a fantastic and colourful celebration this has been.
First, our Home Corner transformed into a Diwali party. We were in awe of the bright decorations which we were so excited to add our own to. We spent a week exploring and investigating the different aspects and features of a Diwali celebration. We noticed there were lots of similarities and differences between our own celebrations such as birthdays and Christmas - we particularly liked that everyone seems to give and receive presents! The children made their own shopping lists during Busy Bee time to ensure they had everything they needed to prepare for their party.
Next, they made firework decorations to use as dancing props. During Science, we thought about how we can mould and manipulate clay with our hands to make Diva lamps. We used our colour mixing of primary colours that we had previously learnt to make the colours we wanted to decorate with.
Finally, we came to school dressed in our best party wear ready to celebrate Diwali together. We really enjoyed our fashion show and dancing to music. We ended our celebrations by inviting our parents into our classroom to see the amazing achievements from our first half term at school - we wonder what we will learn next!
