Year 6 blog:
Year 6 Visit to the Council Chambers
Today, our Year 6 pupils enjoyed a trip to St Barbe Museum, where they explored the history of Lymington and Pennington Town Council and learned about how democracy works within our local community.
Afterwards, they put their learning into action at the Town Hall, stepping inside the Council Chambers to meet Cllr Colm McCarthy, the Mayor of Lymington and Pennington.
Our students took on the roles of Town Clerk, councillors and members of the public, debating real issues that matter to them, including security and safety at Pennington Common, play equipment for young children and traffic speeds on Ramley Road.
We were very proud of our Year 6 pupils for speaking so confidently and passionately about issues close to their hearts. Cllr McCarthy praised them for using their voices so effectively, reminding them that their opinions matter and that the next generation has an important role to play in shaping our local community’s future.
It was a wonderful opportunity for our pupils to see how decisions are made locally, to find out who represents us and how democracy gives everyone a voice. We are very proud of how well our Year 6s represented our school today!
