Year R blog:
Ahoy there! Year R had a swashbuckling time during our Pirate Dress-Up Day, and arrrr, didn’t they all look absolutely shipshape?! The children looked fantastic in their pirate outfits and were ready to set sail on a day full of adventure and learning.
Our pirates became treasure hunters as they learned all about maps and directions, using clues to help them find hidden treasure. They showed brilliant teamwork and fantastic listening skills as they followed routes and searched high and low for the pirate loot.
The children also put on their captain’s hats and wrote in role as pirates, creating wonderful stories and messages full of imagination. We loved hearing about their exciting adventures on the high seas!
We also talked about the importance of sun safety, learning how to protect ourselves from the sunshine while sailing the seven seas. Alongside this, we discussed how to stay safe aboard our pirate ship, making sure everyone knew the rules for being kind, careful and looking after one another.
Our pirate role play continued in the sandpit, where the children dug for buried treasure, sailed imaginary seas and worked together as a fearless crew. We also enjoyed sharing lots of wonderful pirate stories together, inspiring even more adventures and sparking fantastic conversations.Shiver me timbers, what an amazing crew we have! Well done, Year R!
