Year 4 History blog:

Year 4 pupils stepped back thousands of years to explore life in prehistoric Britain during an exciting Stone Age, Bronze Age and Iron Age workshop, led by St Barbe museum! The session brought our History learning vividly to life, giving the children the chance to discover how people lived, worked and survived across these fascinating periods - building on their learning with the English Heritage Team at Stonehenge last week!

Throughout the workshop, pupils explored a range of artefacts and replicas, using them as historical clues to find out more about everyday life in the past. From tools and weapons to objects linked with farming, food, clothing and homes, the children were encouraged to look closely, ask questions and think like archaeologists.

The workshop was a fantastic opportunity to see how life changed over time, from the hunter-gatherers of the Stone Age, through the development of farming and metalworking, to the increasingly organised communities of the Iron Age.

Being able to handle and examine objects helped pupils make meaningful connections with their classroom learning and gave them a much clearer sense of just how different life would have been thousands of years ago.

It was a brilliant way to complement our Year 4 History topic and to inspire curiosity about Britain’s prehistoric past. Thank you to Verity at St Barbe for leading the workshop, it was great fun!
