Year 4: Stonehenge

Year 4 had an amazing trip to Stonehenge as part of their learning on the Stone Age, Bronze Age and Iron Age today. It was a fun-filled day full of hands-on experiences and exciting discoveries! It served as a great 'hook' to support our new topic, as well as giving pupils the opportunity to visit a UNESCO World Heritage Site!

The pupils took part in a workshop led by specialists from the English Heritage team, where they explored a variety of artefacts, including clothing made from furs, leathers and linens. They also investigated how the stones were put in place, considering the incredible effort and ingenuity it would have taken. Discussions included where the stones may have come from and how they were transported to Stonehenge - a "history mystery" that is still being solved! The pupils loved exploring the on site roundhouses as part of their trip, gaining insight into life during the Neolithic period.

But the highlight of the day was seeing the stones themselves! The pupils also took part in some photography challenges for fun – aren't their photos fantastic?
