Year 3 had an unforgettable day at the Bournemouth Oceanarium, bringing their Geography learning about the Great Barrier Reef to life and making meaningful links to Global Goal 14: Life Below Water.
The children thoroughly enjoyed a guided tour, where they came face-to-face with a wide variety of fascinating sea creatures. Highlights included spotting a giant turtle gliding gracefully through the water, watching sharks up close, and recognising colourful clownfish just like those found in coral reefs (and in Finding Nemo!)
They were also amazed by a crocodile and intrigued by the unique appearance of a pufferfish. Beyond the underwater exhibits, the group loved meeting the playful pair of otters and even encountered an iguana!
One of the most exciting moments of the day was watching the penguins being fed their lunch, which was both entertaining and informative.
As part of their visit, the children took part in an engaging workshop all about sustainability. They learned about the serious issue of overfishing and how it affects ocean ecosystems, linking this to responsible consumption and production. The session helped them understand the importance of protecting marine species and how we can all play a role in caring for our oceans.
After a busy morning of exploring and learning, everyone enjoyed lunch with a beautiful view of the beach, taking in the fresh sea air before heading home. It was a fantastic day filled with discovery, excitement and valuable learning experiences!
