Year 3 Greek Day

Year 3 had a wonderful Greek Day today and what a fantastic way to bring our History learning to life! It was lovely to see everyone dressed in white and fully embracing their role as Athenians for the day.

The highlight of our day was our exciting Greek Olympics workshop, hosted by the brilliant Mr H from Superstar Sports. We discovered how the Ancient Greeks celebrated athletic achievement before having the chance to try a range of Olympic-inspired events, including discus, "shotput" (tennis ball!), javelin, sprints and relay races.

We also learned about the famous Battle of Marathon and how the legendary run from Marathon to Athens inspired the modern-day marathon. To finish our sporting activities, we held our own version of a Greek chariot race; a hilarious wheelbarrow race! It was great fun and a fantastic opportunity to show teamwork, determination and encouragement.

Our Greek adventures didn't stop there. During the afternoon, we created beautiful coil pots inspired by Ancient Greek pottery and explored the Greek alphabet, using its distinctive letters to influence our artistic designs.

It has been a day full of learning, creativity, teamwork and laughter. A huge thank you to Superstar Sports for leading such an engaging workshop, and well done to all of Year 3 for throwing themselves into every activity. What a memorable day!
