OWWL update:
We have completed the RSPB’s Big School Birdwatch this week, linking to Global Goal 15- Life on Land! We discovered a variety of species of birds that enjoy exploring our grounds such as, blue tits, robins, song thrushes, carrion crows, starlings, gulls and more! We tracked them and then input the information on the RSPB website. We discussed why birds are so important to the eco system… “they eat the insects that eat our food”, “they excrete the seeds that they eat which then grow into plants” and a poetic reflection from one child, “If we didn’t have birds, we wouldn’t have music because birds are the creators of music!”
We also raked up more leaves to add on to our leaf mould pile as well as completing the important task of measuring up and planning for what is growing in each class planting bed (discussing what they might need to ensure the plants have all that they need, eg: structure for climbing plants, compost/soil/fertilizer for beds that need a top up, enclosed spaces for tubular plants, etc).
