OWWL blog:

We have been very busy in our OWWL lessons this week, harvesting some of the wonderful produce that has been growing in our school grounds — just look at those baskets!

The children were delighted to discover an amazing variety of fruit and vegetables ready to be picked, including red peppers, carrots, sloe berries, peas, plums, beetroot and onions.

Considering the exceptionally hot weather we experienced over the summer, we are so pleased that so much of our fruit and veg has grown successfully and was ready for us to harvest. It has been wonderful for the children to see the results of all the care, patience and hard work that goes into growing our own food.

Even better, our harvest will be helping others in our local community. We will be sharing the “fruits of our labour” with the Kindness Kiosk opposite the school, where our neighbours will be able to enjoy some of our freshly grown produce.

This learning links closely to Global Goal 2 – Zero Hunger, Global Goal 3 – Good Health and Wellbeing, Global Goal 11 – Sustainable Cities and Communities and Global Goal 12 – Responsible Consumption and Production. Through growing, harvesting and sharing our own produce, the children are learning about healthy food, sustainability, reducing waste and the importance of supporting others in our community.

What a wonderful way to see our OWWL learning come to life — caring for our environment, appreciating where our food comes from and using what we have to make a positive difference to others.

Well done to all of our fantastic young gardeners!
