Multiplication Workshop:

Recently, a parent workshop was held for parents of Year 2, Year 3, and Year 4 students to discuss the upcoming multiplication check for Year 4 children. The session aimed to provide valuable insights into the government-mandated multiplication tables check (MTC), which will assess students’ recall of times tables up to 12. The evening was designed to give parents a clear understanding of what the MTC involves, why it is important, and how they can support their child’s preparation. Parents were guided through the structure of the test and were given practical tips on how to create a supportive learning environment at home.

The presentation was well-received, offering a mix of practical advice and reassurance for those attending. Mr Riste-Smith highlighted various strategies that could be implemented at home to reinforce times tables learning, including interactive games, online resources, and tips for making practice sessions engaging. There was an emphasis on maintaining a positive attitude toward the test to alleviate any concerns children might have, focusing on the fact that the check is designed to help teachers assess the support each student needs. Parents left feeling more confident in their ability to help their children succeed and knowing how fantastic their children already are on the rapid recall of multiplication facts. Thank you to all those who attended.
