Year 1 Pip and Pap Phonics:
Today in our Pip and Pap workshop we read the story 'The Holiday'.
The story focused on recapping the letter-sound correspondences:
/ai/ spelt <ay>
/ow/ spelt <ou>
/igh/ spelt <ie>
/ee/ spelt <ea>.
In the story, Gran and Gramps go on holiday, on an aeroplane! Children read sentences containing these sounds in the story, such as "May we book a holiday?" "The ticket says that we are in seats 3 and 5" and "The jet lifts off into the skies. Gramps looks for clouds," with beautiful expression. Pupils then answered questions about the story that they had read.
After reading the story we each learnt how to create a paper aeroplane. Parents and pupils had a competition on the playground to see whose creation flew the furthest! Mrs Rothwell created the aeroplane that flew the furthest - well done!
We run Pip and Pap Parent & Child Workshops in Years R-2 every other week - all are welcome. Please ask your child's class teacher or at the office for more details.
