Harvest Blog
Mrs Rothwell delivered some fantastic workshops for Years R–3 today, as well as leading a whole-school assembly around the theme of Harvest, as part of her role as Children & Families Leader at New Life Church.
Did you know that there are lots of different words hidden within the word harvest? Many of them link beautifully to the theme of community and thankfulness that Harvest represents.
One of those words is “share.” Pupils made colourful beaded bracelets to share with one another, reflecting the spirit of generosity at the heart of Harvest.
Another word is “eat.” During the workshops, children created clay plates and meals, exploring the importance of food and how we can be grateful for what we have.
The word “vest” reminded pupils to think about children around the world who may not have enough clothing, and how we must share with others.
From harvest we can also find the word “heart.” Pupils made heartfelt cards for children in need around the world, showing compassion and kindness.
And finally, the word “starve” encouraged thoughtful reflection on those who do not have enough to eat. Pupils considered the difference between wants and needs, and how we can all make choices that help others.
As part of her visit, Mrs Rothwell also launched our Christmas Shoebox Appeal for Samaritan’s Purse, which our Pupil Sanctuary Team will be leading. To take part, families are invited to fill a shoebox with Christmas gifts for children around the world.
You can find more information here: Samaritan’s Purse – Operation Christmas Child
If your family would like to join in, please look out for a flyer coming home soon and return your shoebox by 11 November.
A big thank you to Mrs Rothwell for a fabulous morning full of creativity, reflection, prayer and community spirit!
