'Earth Day at OLSJ'
On Friday 5th November, all five schools across the partnership held an 'Earth Day', in aid of combating climate change.
Building on the mini COP-26 conference that our School Council attended at the Primary Catholic Partnership, children learned more about climate change and discussed how they can take steps to help stop it.
Today showed that our young people care very deeply about our world. They were very passionate about having their voices heard. All children wrote a letter to the Prime Minister today, explaining their concerns around climate change and their ideas to help halt it. We have sent their letters to 10 Downing Street.
Children also took part in a range of 'Earth' themed activities, designed to educate and inspire. You can see a sample of photographs below that show you what fun we had when learning about saving our planet today! As part of their learning today, children in Years 2-6 have also created a 'Power, Plastic and Plants Pledge' that they have brought home. Please do support your child with their pledges to become more environmentally friendly! If your child can sustain their actions over two weeks, they can apply for a Blue Peter Green Badge to wear in school! Additionally, across the partnership, we raised £828.99 for Action for Conservation, a charity that inspires and empowers young people to become the next generation of environmental leaders.
We are very proud of all of our children for using their voices today to collectively demand change. We hope Boris Johnson takes our pupils' ideas on board and has the nation's children in his thoughts at the COP-26 summit - we do not want climate change to impact on their future.
