Phonics fun at OLSJ

Our children are having so much fun with their phonics lessons! Our school phonics scheme is 'Pip and Pap Phonics' - a systematic, synthetic phonics programme for reading and writing. The friendly and familiar alien characters in the 'Pip and Pap' world support children to navigate their way through the programme, featuring in both the phonics resources and fully decodable book scheme.

Take a look at our gallery of Year R-2 phonics this week - Year 2 have been reading instructions and carrying them out, as well as working on alternative pronunciations and spellings. Year 1 have been working on applying their learning to write sentences and Year R have met their very first digraph this week! A big thank you to Year R parents who also came along to our Pip and Pap session on 'Earth Words' this week (words that are not yet fully decodable, such as 'the', and 'no'.)

If you would like any tips to support with phonics at home, please do let your child's class teacher know. We have a KS1 workshop coming up in due course.
