Year R blog:

Reception have had an exciting visit to the Fire Station! We were very excited to take our Personal, Social and Emotional Learning off site to our local Fire Station at Lymington. We spent time thinking about the different rescue operations our local Firefighters undertake before looking at their uniform.

Next, we went to visit the fire truck! They showed us all the parts needed to be successful in fighting fires, helping stuck animals and responding to road traffic accidents. We even sat in the seats! We headed outside to see where the team filled up their water tanks. We were surprised by having the chance to use the hoses ourselves - it was so much fun!

Our favourite facts from the day:

  1. All of the firefighters equipment weighs 60kgs to wear.

  2. Most common reason for house fires is using your phone whilst it is on charge.

  3. There has never been a female firefighter in the history of Lymington Fire Station (they are currently recruiting!).

  4. They can use any water available at access points - that includes if your neighbour has a swimming pool!

A big thank you to Mr Pearce and to the staff at Lymington Fire Station for facilitating the visit!
