Pip and Pap EYFS Workshop:

Our parents and pupils in Year R enjoyed a family phonics workshop together today, reading Orange Phase story "Tisp and the Map!"

This story focuses on the initial sounds we have been learning in school so far - /s/, /a/, /t/, /p/, /i/, /n/, /m/ and /d/. Pupils taught their parents the letter-sound correspondences, to model how to pronounce them correctly!

Pupils were able to sound out blend words such as 'map', 'tip', 'Dad', 'Tisp' and 'Nan' as part of their reading, as well as recap our Earth Words 'the', 'to', 'no' and 'go'. Parents asked their children comprehension questions, to make sure that children knew what was happening in the story, as well as being able to decode the words!

In the story, Tisp the alien is driving in her car! Pupils and parents made their own paper plate cars together during the session - aren't they fabulous? We run Pip and Pap Parent and Pupil workshops every other week at OLSJ, in Years R-2. Please ask your child's class teacher for more information - all are welcome!
