New Forest Ranger Visit:

This week, our school had a very exciting visitor! Jim, a People and Wildlife Ranger from the New Forest Education Team, came to lead an assembly and workshops with our classes.

He taught us all about the New Forest — its special qualities, beautiful habitats, and the incredible wildlife that lives there. We also learned about the challenges the forest faces, and how rangers like Jim help to protect it.

During the sessions, we explored the New Forest Code — simple steps we can all follow to enjoy the forest safely while also looking after the animals and plants that call it home:

  • Keep your distance from the animals – never touch or feed them.

  • Take your litter home – keep the forest clean and safe.

  • Stick to the speed limits when driving – to protect wandering animals.

  • Park only in proper car parks – not on verges or in gateways.

  • No fires or barbecues – to protect the woodland and heath.

  • Keep dogs under control – especially around wildlife and grazing animals.

  • Follow the signs and stick to the tracks – to protect sensitive habitats.

Everyone really enjoyed the visit, and we came away with lots of ideas about how we can play our part in caring for this amazing place in which we live.

Thank you, Jim, for inspiring us to protect the New Forest. We are very lucky to live in such a beautiful place!
