World Book Day. Mar 2022.
We had a fabulous time on World Book Day! Everyone across the school dressed up to celebrate their love of reading and books!
Each class recorded a special assembly about their class reading book, which were shared across the partnership! We all learned more about books that children our age are reading. There were some super recommendations and we have been inspired to choose a new class novel as a result.
Mrs Montague has kindly purchased a new book for every class across the partnership to read. Each class voted for a new book today from the 'Peters Books Top 100 Reads'. Some of our choices were inspired by our peers in the other partnership schools!
Every class themed their learning around their class reader for this half term and each door was decorated with the theme of the book to make an interactive school library!
Year R were transported to Narnia to learn about the Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe! They created their own magical kingdoms and created crowns just like the Ice Queen's!
Year 1 were immersed in Roald Dahl's Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator! Mr Wonka was struggling to fit his sweets through the tubes in his factory! But luckily, Year 1 created some arrays as part of their Maths work to save the day!
Year 2 have also been enjoying Roald Dahl and have been reading Matilda as their class novel - they learned about fractions using Bruce Bogtrotters Chocolate Cake! They also enjoyed tasting it too!
Year 3 have been reading 'Fortunately the Milk' by Neil Gaiman. They wrote their own sequel of the story as part of their learning today!
Year 4 focused on 'The Hatmakers' by Tamzin Merchant. In the story, hats are made to represent different attributes. The children designed and created hats for their peers to wear when they show certain attributes in the classroom, linking DT and PSHE learning!
Year 5 have been reading 'Goodnight Mr Tom' by Michelle Magorian, writing in role as evacuees and completing some 'Dig for Victory' challenges in the school gardens!
Year 6 have been reading 'Kensuke's Kingdom' by Michael Morpurgo. They even learned some Japanese as part of their day!
Thank you to all students and staff across the school for your participation - we had a great day!
