Pip and Pap Workshop Year 1
Parents and Pupils enjoyed a fun filled phonics workshop this afternoon, reading the Pip and Pap Pink Phase Book 21, "Dad's Dinner!"
Pupils taught their parents the grapheme-phoneme correspondences /ar/, /or/, /ur/ and 'er' that we have previously learned in school, before reading "Dad's Dinner," that contains these GPCs!
Pupils read sentences to their parents such as "Dad gets Pap some jam tarts. He forgets to check the toast!" "The toast pops out of the toaster. It is all black and burnt!" "Dad has a plan. He gets out a card and rings a number."
In the story, the smoke alarm goes off, because Dad burns the toast! Pupils and parents talked about the importance of a smoke alarm, changing the batteries regularly and what to do if the smoke alarm goes off at home, or who to call in an emergency.
Dad orders a pizza (usually he is a very good cook!) for dinner instead - so pupils and parents made their own paper plate pizzas at the end of the session. Aren't they fantastic? They look good enough to eat!
All parents are welcome at Pip and Pap Phonics sessions - please ask your child's class teacher for more details!
