Year 4 blog:
Year 4 pupils stepped back nearly two thousand years and into the world of Roman Britain, thanks to an inspiring workshop led by Verity from St Barbe Museum. The session brought history (and our new topic of "The Romans") vividly to life, filling our classrooms with curiosity, excitement and the thrill of real archaeological discovery.
One of the highlights of the workshop was the opportunity for pupils to get up close to genuine Roman artefacts. Verity's incredible coin hoard, alongside real and replica Roman pottery was displayed for the children to examine. Did you know that the New Forest was an important hub during the Roman era for pottery? Pottery from the forest was used all over southern England. You can still see examples at the New Forest Museum in Lyndhurst.
Being able to hold and study objects from the Roman era helped pupils understand how the Romans once lived, worked and travelled through this very area! It was a wonderful workshop to complement our new History topic and to learn more about History in our local area!
Thank you Verity for a fabulous afternoon!
