Year 2:
Year 2 parents and pupils enjoyed a phonics workshop together this afternoon, recapping words that contain alternative pronunciations for graphemes that they have already met.
They read the story "Follow the Rainbow" together, following the aliens Tisp and Soll who were on a hunt to find a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow!
Pupils looked at 'ow' words where the grapheme is pronounced /oa/, in words like rainbow, follow, meadow and rowing. They recapped 'y' words where the letter makes an /ee/ sound in words like happy, an /i/ sound in words like myth, or an /igh/ sound in words like cry. They also recapped the grapheme 'ie', where words such as field and shield make an /ee/ sound.
After answering questions about the story, pupils and parents made their own rainbow pictures, with their very own pot of gold! Aren't they lovely?
We run parent and pupil workshops every other week at OLSJ in Year R to 2 - please ask your child's class teacher for more details!
