Year 3 blog:
Year 3 had an amazing adventure when we visited the Tutankhamun Exhibition in Dorchester to complement our History learning about the Ancient Egyptians.
When we arrived at the museum, we were warmly welcomed by Naomi, an Ancient History expert and Egyptian enthusiast. She showed us a range of fascinating Egyptian artefacts, including a replica of the Rosetta Stone, and helped bring history to life with her brilliant knowledge.
We learned all about the history of uncovering Tutankhamun’s tomb and the incredible team, including Howard Carter, who discovered it in 1922. After that, we followed in their footsteps to see a recreation of the tomb– it was incredible! There was gold everywhere, canopic jars, scarab beetles and many other artefacts!
Next, we learned more about Tutankhamun himself and explored a real history mystery: how did he die? Although modern science has helped uncover some clues, we discovered that we may never know the full truth.
We were also amazed by the replica of Tutankhamun’s mask and spent time sketching it carefully. These sketches will be taken back to school and developed further in our lessons.
Another highlight was the replica mummy exhibition, which even included a mummified crocodile! After all that learning, we enjoyed lunch at the museum before heading back to Lymington with our brains full of new facts and knowledge to apply in future History lessons.
We each received a certificate from the museum for uncovering the secrets of the tomb!
It truly was an unforgettable experience and an amazing adventure for Year 3!
