Eco blog:
What a busy couple of weeks we've had since we returned to school!
We have loved getting stuck into our Outdoor Wellbeing Woodland session. So far we have enjoyed taking care of our school environment including; litter picking and weeding.
Our pruning activity was interrupted by an insect emergency though! What the children identified as a "buff-tailed bumble bee", was lying on the grass! We discussed why this might have happened and came to the conclusion that it may have woken up a bit early and hadn't been able to find enough flowers nearby to drink nectar from. Our remedy was to mix some sugar and water for it to drink and it did!!! We were fascinated by it's looooong tongue (proboscis) and we left it to drink in a sunny patch right next to some flowering plants. When we went to check on it later it had disappeared - we think it flew away!
We have also enjoyed making pancakes (of the mud variety) in the mud kitchen, discovered lots of bugs (including larvae!), have continued to plant vegetables and flowers ready for later in the year and having LOTS of muddy fun! Finally, we enjoyed a pancake race - we practiced our flipping skills and worked well in our teams, cheering one another on.
