Year 2 blog:

Year 2 have been brilliant, learning their lines and the songs ready for the nativity to their adults. They have loved the songs and many of them were keen to have speaking parts. All the narrators quickly learnt their lines and performed they beautifully during the performance. Well done Year 2!

During the final two weeks of this term, Year 2 have been studying shapes. They dived into the exciting world of shape and are developing a strong understanding of both 2D and 3D shapes through hands-on activities, problem solving and reasoning tasks.

The children have learnt to recognise 2D and 3D shapes and be able to name them. The children have learnt how to recognise the edges and vertices of 2D shapes and use this information to make comparisons and sort the shapes in different ways.

Following on from their learning about 2D shapes the children learnt how to identify and draw in vertical lines of symmetry. We all worked really hard on using rulers and making sure that we were drawing neat lines to make sure that the shapes were accurately formed.

The Year 2s then learnt to recognise the features of 3D shapes and use this to make comparisons and again sort them into different criterion.

Key Vocabulary the children learnt in Mathematics: ‘sides’, ‘vertices’, ‘edges’, ‘faces’, ‘symmetry’, ‘horizontal’ and ‘vertical’.
